Ten Things We Want You to Know
Before the First Day of School at Jefferson!
-The first day of school is Monday, August 30. We are so excited to have you back!
-School starts at 8:20 am. Campus opens at 8:00 am. Dismissal is at 2:40 every day except for Wednesdays when it is 12:30. All students will gather on the joint use field before school and will be
dismissed at the end of the day through the same gates. There will be staff letting you know where to line up and answering questions.
-Students need to wear masks at all times except for when they are eating. Mask guidelines are set by the district and must be followed when on campus.
-Please make sure to bring a backpack and computer to school every day. You should bring a water bottle, extra masks and a lunch/snack if you choose. Lunch is available and free for all students this year. Your teachers will let you know if there are specific supplies or things you should or should not bring.
-Class rosters will be posted online in the Parent Portal and outside of campus by the Joint Use Field on Friday afternoon. Classrooms are carefully assigned but changes may be necessary during the first couple of weeks.
-COVID-19 testing will be offered on campus every Friday. Please look for the email sent by the district for specifics and how to sign up or opt out.
-We will no longer need to fill out a ClearPass form before entering campus. HOWEVER, we ask that if your child has a cough, shortness of breath, runny nose or fever of 100 degrees or above they should remain at home and contact the school nurse before coming to campus.
-The first two weeks of school will be minimum days for all TK and Kindergarten students. All TK and Kindergarten students will be dismissed at 12:30 p.m. for the first two weeks only! During the two week minimum days, TK and Kindergarten teachers will be making appointments with families to conduct one on one assessments with your child. Teachers will reach out to you to schedule an appointment.
-Things are changing. Rules are changing. Guidelines are changing. We will do our best to let you know what we know, when we know it.
- Our main goals for this school year are to have our staff and students remain HEALTHY and HAVE FUN! We want everyone to be in school and learning as much as possible.

If you need care for your children before school starts and/or after school is out, Jefferson Elementary offers two choices: Prime Time and SAY San Diego before and after school programs (onsite)
The Prime Time Extended Day Program provides students with a fun and engaging learning environment during the hours most parents/guardians are working. Prime Time is free

SAY San Diego: SAY San Diego (Social Advocates for Youth) is our fee based before and after school program. a dynamic, locally based non-profit agency celebrating over 40 years of dedicated support to the positive development of young people, their families, and communities.
